What about water wastage? Do RO systems waste a lot of water? 

Traditional and newer RO systems can produce wastewater: a portion of feed water becomes “waste” as the membrane rejects contaminants — especially if water pressure is sub-optimal or feed water is heavily contaminated. That said, newer systems and improved membranes are more efficient sending less water to drain in the purification process.

How often do I need to replace filters or membranes in an RO system?

Replacement frequency depends on water quality and usage, pre- and post-filters often need replacement every 6–12 months; RO membranes typically last longer but should be replaced per manufacturer’s recommendation (often every 2–4 years).
